Ward Tower Senior Social Center Celebrates Grand Reopening

Miami, FL. (June 10, 2024) — Independent Living Community Services (ILCS), in partnership with Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development, recently celebrated the grand reopening of the Ward Tower Senior Social Center.

The event marked a significant milestone in enhancing community support and resources for senior residents that live in the building (located at 2200 NW 54th St, Miami, FL) and the surrounding community.

The newly refurbished social center boasts a variety of enhanced amenities and services designed to enrich the lives of residents. These include a new computer lab, domino room and refurbished library where residents can check out the latest books. There are also English and Spanish classes available along with craft workshops.

“We are thrilled with this grand re-opening and being able to provide a vibrant, welcoming space for our senior residents,” said Josefina Carbonell, Executive Director of Independent Living Community Services. “This center represents our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for seniors in our community.”

Independent Living Community Services Inc. (ILCS) is the non-profit organization of Independent Living Systems (ILS) and is committed to providing supportive services that promote independence to the elderly in Miami-Dade County, Florida. ILCS leverages the programs at Independent Living Systems, further extending its mission to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable populations.

For nearly 20 years, ILCS, has been proud to support Ward Tower as a “home away from home” for hundreds of residents in Miami-Dade County. The first facility of its kind, Ward Tower focuses on low-income elderly residents who want to live in a safe and comfortable place to enjoy their golden years.

ILS has donated nearly $700,000 to Ward Tower for operational expenses, including the recent remodel. Through ILCS, Ward Tower receives millions of dollars in program income, grants and small private contributions.
