Miami, FL. (September 2025) Florida Community Care (FCC), a Medicaid managed care plan owned by Independent Living Systems (ILS), is proud to announce a new partnership with Special Olympics Florida aimed at expanding opportunities, health services, and community engagement for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across the state.
Through this collaboration, FCC will serve as a Gold Partner for Special Olympics Florida, supporting key programs including the Family Action Network, the State Fall Classic, Race for Inclusion in Miami, and Golf for Inclusion in Palm Beach. These initiatives provide athletes with year-round access to sports and community resources—ensuring they are supported both on and off the field.
FCC and ILS have a deep commitment to the IDD community. In 2024, Florida launched a Medicaid pilot program that provided individuals with IDD not only their regular healthcare services, but also additional home and community-based supports. The Florida Legislature approved the plan, now known as the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Comprehensive Managed Care (ICMC) Program, in 2025 to be statewide.
“Partnering with Special Olympics Florida is a natural extension of our commitment of improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable populations,” said Nestor Plana, Chairman and CEO of Independent Living Systems. “Together, we are building a future where individuals with IDD have equal access to quality health care, opportunities for personal growth, and the joy of sport.”
FCC’s sponsorship will help strengthen the Family Action Network, which ensures athletes remain connected to the Special Olympics Florida community throughout their lives, and support one of the largest annual Special Olympics Florida events, the Fall Classic. FCC will also play a visible role in community awareness events like the Race for Inclusion and Golf for Inclusion, helping to break down barriers and challenge stereotypes about people with IDD.
“Florida Community Care’s partnership allows us to raise awareness on the importance of receiving preventative health services and promote community integration for people with IDD.” said Abby Riddle, President of Florida Community Care. “This collaboration will make a meaningful difference for thousands of people and their families.”
