Bill Altman, JD, serves as senior advisor and consultant to health and post-acute care organizations nationwide.
During his 23 years at Kindred Healthcare, Altman served as executive vice president, chief strategy officer, and chief of staff to the chief executive officer. He also oversaw Kindred’s federal and state policy initiatives. Altman spearheaded development of the company’s enterprise continuum of care strategy to position Kindred for hospital and managed care partnerships and value-based payment. Altman developed an expertise in payment and delivery systems across the full post-acute spectrum. He also advised the board and oversaw development of the company’s compliance, risk management and Sarbanes-Oxley programs.
Prior to joining Kindred, he served in a variety of capacities in the public and private sectors in healthcare consulting, at law firms specializing in healthcare issues, and at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Actively involved in healthcare policy, Altman has served on several provider association boards, testified before Congress and, through legislation, helped design regulation payment and quality regulation systems. He is past president of the Acute Long Term Hospital Association (ALTHA), and he served on the American Hospital Association’s president’s council on post-acute care and the board of the Federation of American Hospitals.
Altman serves as a board member, consultant and strategic advisor for a number of other healthcare companies.
