Independent Living Systems, LLC announces nationwide partnership with Humana for the administration of its Well Dine food program.

Date: October 1, 2011

ILS was selected by Humana as the sole vendor for the implementation of the Well Dine Program starting 2011. ILS anticipates serving over 108,000 clients and over 1 million meals by the end of this year. ILS responsibilities are fulfilled by its ability to offer a robust multi-lingual call center providing quality access to our services, and a high level sophisticated logistics software to ensure timely and accurate deliveries at a national level coupled with our ability to successfully ship within three business days through a third party vendor.

Humana’s Well Dine food program delivers meals to eligible Medicare Advantage members after an inpatient stay at a medical facility. The member receives up to 10 frozen, precooked, nutritious meals delivered by Well Dine at no charge, along with a guide on healthy eating. Well Dine has served more than one million meals to more than 81,000 Humana members since the program began in 2006.

Medical studies show that Medicare members in their first few days home are often vulnerable to readmission. Part of the problem is difficulty with meal preparation. Proper nutrition is vital for rehabilitation and also helps with medication adherence. According to research on Humana’s meal-delivery program, Humana Medicare Advantage members who participate in the Well Dine delivery program have fewer hospital readmissions, shorter hospital stays, and fewer emergency room visits. Through the program, Humana also checks in on the members following meal delivery to see how they are doing. Well Dine can help connect the members with community-based senior services, such as ongoing meal service, transportation assistance or nutrition counseling, for which the members may be eligible.

Independent Living Systems, LLC is excited about this partnership and what it represents to the Humana members that participate in this program. Together we are making a difference in the way coordinated healthcare is provided at a national level, said Nestor J. Plana, CEO of Independent Living Systems, LLC.
