Independent Living Systems Expands Leadership Team as Growth Accelerates

Miami, FL. (February 2025) – Independent Living Systems (ILS), a leading provider of health and social services for vulnerable populations in Medicare, Medicaid, and Dual-Eligible markets, is strengthening its leadership team to support its continued growth and strategic successes.

This leadership expansion follows significant milestones for ILS, including extending its reach in California through a partnership with Kaiser Permanente, securing a new Medicaid contract with Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to expand services through its Medicaid health plan, Florida Community Care, and being selected by AHCA to operate a managed care plan dedicated to individuals with developmental disabilities.

“As ILS continues to grow, we are bringing in top-tier talent to improve care delivery and ensure we remain at the forefront of healthcare solutions for those who need it most,” said Nestor Plana, Chairman and CEO of ILS. “These new leaders bring deep expertise and a shared commitment to our mission of providing person-centered, comprehensive health and social care.”

ILS proudly welcomes the following senior leaders to its team:

  • John Camperlengo, Chief Legal Officer – Camperlengo joins as ILS’ first Chief Legal Officer, overseeing all legal and compliance functions for the organization. Prior to joining ILS, John held Chief Legal Officer positions with PharmScript, a long-term care pharmacy, and Unified Women’s Healthcare.  Before his career in law, John worked in the financial services industry with Prudential Financial.
  • Mayda Antun, M.D., M.B.A., Chief Medical Officer – Dr. Antun has nearly three decades of experience as a physician executive and clinical operations leader in local and national managed care companies and provider organizations. Prior to ILS, she served as Chief Clinical Officer at CareMax, where she led quality improvement, clinical pharmacy performance, and practice integration. During her employment with Humana, she was the clinical leader in the national strategy to engage primary care practices and build a culture of value-based care.
  • Holly Prince, Chief Operating Officer, Medical Plans – Prince oversees health plan operations at ILS, leveraging extensive leadership experience in Medicaid and Medicare managed care. Previously, she served as CFO at Palm Medical Centers and held various executive roles at Simply Healthcare Plans and its parent organization, Elevance, including Regional Vice President of Operations and Florida Medicaid Plan President.
  • Lee Bowers, Senior Vice President, Provider Networks – Bowers brings over 30 years of experience in healthcare network management, focusing on provider engagement and care accessibility. At ILS, he will oversee the development, management, and performance of the company’s provider network.
  • Aristides (Ardy) Pallin, Senior Vice President, Consumer Services – Pallin brings extensive leadership experience in healthcare operations, having served as CEO of Catholic Health Services and previously holding executive roles at Jackson Health System and Leon Medical Centers. At ILS, he will oversee the organization’s direct-to-consumer services, including pharmacy, at-home medical supplies, home health, and meals.

“Nurturing and expanding our leadership team is essential to sustaining the momentum we’ve built at ILS,” said Plana. “With this exceptional group of leaders, we are not only reinforcing our commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centered care but also positioning ILS for continued growth and innovation in serving our most vulnerable populations.”
